Brandt’s Dwarf Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum ‘Brandt’s Dwarf’) is a cultivar of the Japanese maple. This small, deciduous tree grows to a height of only 2 to 3 feet with a similar spread. This particular cultivar is known for its compact size and unique appearance. The tree has a dense, bushy growth habit with small, delicate, deeply lobed leaves. They emerge a bright reddish-purple then deepen to blood red in the summer. Later in the season they take on a rust-green color. ‘Brandt’s Dwarf’ prefers a shady location with well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
